Travelling To and From School
Eligible students need to apply online for a School Opal card. Please visit the School Student Travel Scheme for all the information and the link to apply. Our students are asked to sit and wait quietly in bus lines until escorted to the bus by the teacher on duty. Children are expected to behave in a polite and safe manner while travelling on buses. Bus drivers will report unsatisfactory student behaviour to the Principal. The current bus routes and numbers can be viewed below.
Parents are reminded to obey all parking and bus signs around the school. The bus pickup and drop off area is in Fletcher St and also a pickup and drop off area for parents. The staff car parks in Fletcher St and in Lukin St are “out of bounds” for all students. Parents are requested not to drive into staff car parks to drop students off or to let them walk through the car parks. We get many deliveries throughout the day and the car park in Fletcher St is always busy.
Bikes and Scooters
Children in Years 5-6 are allowed to ride bicycles and scooters to school, however we consider this a privilege, so we expect safe and responsible behaviour. The children must wear an approved safety helmet and they must obey the road rules and general safety rules. Riders are asked to dismount their bike/scooter to cross the road at the school crossing. They are asked to walk their bike/scooter across the crossing and not to get on again until they are across to the other side. Bikes/scooters must be walked into and out of school grounds. If your child is riding his or her bike/scooter to school, please reinforce these points with them for their own safety and the safety of pedestrians. Due to safety concerns skateboards are not permitted at school.
School Crossing Supervisor
We have a new School Crossing Supervisor, Mrs Leathley. She is a parent of children at HPS and we welcome her to the new role.
